Security cameras monitor each level's rooms in On Observation Duty 4. Since anomalies can arise at any time, players must learn each environment's layout and details. Abnormalities include object placement, extra entities, distortions, and other strange activities. Correct reports remove anomalies and allow players to survive till 6 a.m. Recognizing what changed and where before too many blunders is difficult.
Fourth installment includes new maps of various sizes and complexity. Visual clutter makes improvements harder to spot in some stages. Other minimalistic rooms use player memory. As anomalies arise, time automatically advances and complexity increases. Complete shifts to unlock additional places. Design and procedural anomaly generation make On Observation Duty 4 replayable despite its lack of narrative.
