Vigil is a horror game that tests screen interaction. The action takes place in Vigil Incorporated's underground compound, a dying company. You start as a late-night worker lugging boxes through abandoned passageways.
Vigil's blinking mechanic sets it apart from other horror games. If your webcam is on, every blink is monitored, and closing your eyes lets the creature move. Developers added a keyboard option to simulate the system for individuals without a webcam. Since blinking becomes harmful, players must overcome instinct and stare at the screen longer than they want, adding to their vulnerability.
Vigil targets mature audiences. The game has disturbing images, loud noises, abrupt scares, and suicide and violent themes. By merging these aspects with its blinking mechanic, Vigil creates a unique immersion where player and character blur.
