Get ready to go yandere for Casper in The Cursed Box! Experience a chilling romance with Casper, the creature trapped inside an ancient item.
The Cursed Box is a hardcore, supernatural and psychological horror visual novel about Lloyd, a young man, seeking a new life. Having recently lost his superstitious grandmother, Lloyd spends up his funds to purchase a quaint old cottage. But living in this new abode turns weird when he unearths a dusty box in the attic. Inside is a strange white-haired bugger called Casper, who cryptically grins and informs Lloyd that he is his new master and cautiously warns him of terrible events to come if he's not devoted to him.
The plot is conveyed via narrative passages, character dialog, and brightly colored images. Controls are basic, excellent for a crawl-on-the-PC:
The Cursed Box is notable for its odd mix of companionship and intrusion. Casper machismo walls, colored with one ugly joke, flirt awkwardly and are obsessed with human existence. But underneath that humor is a tension so high it borders on extreme. Casper is ambiguous about his origins, and his dominating, yandere nature makes the discomfort of his devotion very real.
You'll need to be careful in your responses and watch Casper's behavior throughout the game to manage this awkward situation. The Day 5 Demo has three possible routes to complete, so experiment with different choices in your efforts to solve the mystery!
But if you go for The Cursed Box, just know that you're dealing with yandere, emotional manipulation, and very uncomfortable scenarios to add psychological tension to (already solid-looking) a visual novel.
